Sockeye Salmon
Sockeye salmon also called red salmon, kokanee salmon, or blueback salmon, are found in the Northern Pacific Ocean and its tributaries. Their southern range is the Columbia River basin north to Alaska and west to Siberia. They can grow up to 33 inches and weight from 5 to 15 lbs. They are the third most common Salmon in the Pacific, which means that during the summer spawning time they are prolific in the rivers and streams that enter the Pacific within their range. For the first couple of weeks after they enter fresh water, they provide arguably the best fight of all of the Salmon species.
